Grupo de morte* – Part 3

June 22nd, 2010 by · No Comments · Features, Football

Group G finally kicked this tournament into overdrive with a festival of 11 goals in two matches yesterday.

So, what about the final group games on Friday 25th June? Assuming Brazil and Portugal play out the draw that suits them both the Ivory Coast would go out. However if someone forgets the script and Brazil win 1-0 then Ivory Coast would need to score 8 against Korea DPR. On yesterdays performance that looks like 45 minutes work.

GOD-Head predicts – “The Portugeezers to play game of shame. Ivory Coast to donate kit to Blackpool. Koreans make a break for the Zim border”.

Brazil v Ivory Coast [3-1] - BBC Report – Brazil progressed to the knockout stages of the World Cup with an efficient rather than effervescent performance against a subdued Ivory Coast. The scoreline may suggest otherwise but the South Americans lacked the vintage Brazilian sparkle – although they produced moments of brilliance during an incident-packed second-half. Luis Fabiano scored twice – a fine first-half strike, then a second goal with a dubious hint of handball – and Elano slotted in ahead of Didier Drogba’s headed consolation.

Portugal v Korea DPR [7-0] - BBC Report – Portugal hammered North Korea to leave the European side needing a draw from their final game to make the last 16. Jose Raul Meireles’s neat finish gave Portugal the lead on the half hour, before Simao scored a superb second. Hugo Almeida’s header and Tiago’s side-foot shot made it four, with substitute Liedson slotting home a fifth. Cristiano Ronaldo tapped in before Tiago fired home as Portugal scored six second-half goals to get their World Cup campaign back on track.
