England moved safely into the 2013 Women’s European Championship finals with a 3-0 victory over Croatia but, against the weakest side in their five-nation qualifying group, it was with a laboured performance that smacked of an Olympics hangover for the players who had helped Team GB to reach the London 2012 quarter-finals.

“The girls were totally focused after coming away from the Olympics,” said the coach, Hope Powell. “At times we moved the ball well, but when we stopped doing the things we said we’d do we put ourselves in trouble a bit. The result was the most important thing though, and I’m happy that we’ve qualified for another major tournament.”
